American Airlines inaugurated its Dallas Fort Worth to Tokyo non-stop service in 1987. As the DC 10 did not have the sufficient range to operate this route, AA acquired two Boeing 747SPs from TWA. The following seat map represents the 26F 78J 78M cabin configuration in 1987 which saw service up until 1991 when the Tokyo route was replaced by new McDonnell Douglas MD-11s
